Do you have goals? Do you know where you want to steer your life? Have you actually thought about your goals in a while? I think about mine all the time. Goals should really be the driving force of your life. They should embody and light the way for the person you want to be. I have a personal mission statement sort of thing and I use it to road map out current goals. I try to have less than 5 big life goals any more than that and I lose focus. It’s quite possible that’s because I have a super short attention span, but I think that trying to get a lot done at once leads to more unwise decisions about my future. Life and learn right? Here are my current pulse points at the moment.
Eating more local
This one is really a carry over goal from the last few years. I shop at my farmer’s market weekly and I shop at hippy stores like Trader Joes, Chucks Produce & Whole Foods. I shop for local over organic because I’m cheap because I get better produce that way and I get to support the local community. Really as long as I go to the Market every Saturday I’m good. I need to integrate this better with my menu planning and then I’ll mark this goal as a habit.
Saving for the big trip
Rick Steves owns my soul for trusty budget friendly travel information. I’ve never done a group tour before and I don’t like the way most are structured. Rick Steve offers a sort of Grand Tour of Europe – 21 days of AMAZINGNESS. From Amersterdam to Italy to France and so much in between! So I’m saving for that. It has a big price tag, no flight included, but when I crunch the numbers I can’t get anywhere near that for the quality of the experience offered. So I’m saving – lots of saving. In 3 years I’ll be able to go AND have money to buy things to send home. I’m SO excited to take this trip! Really since it’s a lot of money most of my financial life revolves around paying off debt and allocating money properly into savings for this trip.
Setting up a solid workout schedule
This I simply need to get better at discipline. I actually like to work out. I am however very lazy. I have a ballet bar in my bedroom and I just need to use it for 20 minutes a day. I also have a sweet gym membership. I feel like I need to go to the gym and do cardio 5 times a week for 30 minutes coupled with time at the ballet bar 3 times a week. I know I can do this. I think that I need to keep my gym bag in the car and go right after work. We shall see!
Handmade
This year I’m really introducing more handmade items into my life. Since I am very active on Etsy I’m hoping to find some really beautiful pieces and solutions for where I live. I think that goes from buying mostly commercial items vs. handmade items will be a big process and I’ve thought about the price difference, but in the end I come back to the idea of everything I buy adds value to my life. I get the most bang for my buck in ‘life value’ with handmade items with their own stories and uniqueness than stuff I can find at Target or Ikea. I’m starting small – accessories, art and maybe even bed linen or towels.
What are your pulse points?
